What exactly is a CIPP installation
Before we tackle exactly what Bluelight installation is, let us explain what CIPP installation is first.

CIPP installation can actually be traced to this British inventor who devised the very first ever cured in place pipe system. Its progress and the standards that he set for CIPP installation have ensured that this flexible, useful method of pipeline rehabilitation is around for many years to come.
What are the benefits of CIPP installation?

All the work with CIPP installation is carried out in situ, which simply means that the pipe work is left in the original place or location as before. As the CIPP installation process has been refined over the years, some of the resin or epoxy mixtures used today aren’t exactly the same as the original ones used.
Bluelight for curing
One has probably seen advertisements for teeth whitening kits recently on social media, or have noticed that the dentist often shines a bluelight device on a new filling for a short time. This is essentially the same method used in our Bluelight CIPP installation process.
The use of an LED light head, blue in this case, that is passed through the resin impregnated material which is passed through the damaged section of pipe, the bluelights then cure the resin which leaves a new pipe within the original, or host pipe.
The Bluelight CIPP installation is incredibly efficient and can reduce between ninety and ninety nine percent carbon dioxide, compared to the alternative heat curing systems that have been in use for some time.

Bluelight CIPP installation to eliminate damage and disruption
Recently, the gas networks have started to replace the old iron pipes with plastic pipes to accommodate the latest gas products, such as hydrogen. Bluelight CIPP installation is a great method of avoiding turning a street into a mass of craters.
Currently excavations are being carried out in Hertfordshire to lay new plastic pipes in readiness for a new, modern gas supply and the disruption is quite staggering.
The noise alone from the excavation work required is high and prolonged. This was accidentally damaged during excavation, leaving an entire street without Wi-Fi or internet from their router for just over three days. Annoying if you rely on this connection for your television, but absolutely infuriating if you cannot work due to the internet outage.
Bluelight CIPP installation would have eliminated, or at least minimised the chance of damage being caused to other underground services.
Bluelight CIPP installation for virtually any pipe system
CIPP installation can be used on pretty much any kind of pipe. Potable running water, gas, or even sewage, there is a CIPP solution to suit the pipes usage. Essentially, CIPP technology makes a replacement pipe, and that pipe is made of special resins that bond with a liner. It’s obviously vital to select a pipe lining material that can cope with what is to travel through the pipe being replaced. Most CIPP resins are composites, but some are specially designed for potable water. These resins lack the dangerous chemicals found in CIPP sewer and grey water pipe types. One of the greatest differences between different CIPP products, however, comes from the type of materials used for the liner. The hardening resin is only part of the finished product. So, you see that, coupled with Bluelight hardening technology and the cured in place pipe, almost any pipe borne product can benefit from this versatile and reliable technology.
As stated, all liners use composites, but some composites have different bases. The types of pipes to be repaired usually determine the base of the composite. A common liner used, is polyester, which is a fabric great for supporting resin without losing flexibility before it can get into position. More importantly, polyester is easy to saturate with the liquid resin that will harden into the new pipe when the blue light is passed through it. It’s a very cost effective liner, too, which makes it even more popular for plumbers and customers alike. Fibreglass has many of the same properties, but does a better job in larger pipes than polyester liners.
Sewers and other pipes containing corrosive materials need special composite materials that are designed to stand up to the effects of the material travelling through the pipe system. Liners for pipes carrying potable water must meet additional standards to ensure no dangerous chemicals or contaminants can find their way into the water supply.
Bluelight CIPP installation procedure
Bluelight CIPP lining system for lateral pipes and small drainage pipes is the most advanced light-curing system available on the market today. This amazingly innovative technology enables CIPP lining installers to escape the time pressures that apply to some other CIPP systems. The specially formulated resin will only cure under light that is in the blue wavelength, giving installers a much longer working time between adding the resin to the liner and curing. Once installed, the automated curing system pulls the blue light head through the liner, curing the resin almost instantly, in fact, up to five times faster than other methods of curing. In the past, installers would have to wait literally hours for the liner to cure, whereas now, a sizeable sewer pipe could be fully cured in less than ten or so minutes. This technology is so good, that we genuinely see the Bluelight in situ lining system as a proven solution for lateral pipe work.
Different CIPP installation methods
Now we have looked at the way that a CIPP pipe system is cured with blue light, let’s take a quick look at the different CIPP methods employed today. There are essentially two ways to install a CIPP liner in a particular system with the use of water, instead of blue light.
Inversion CIPP installation
This method uses water pressure to keep the resin in place. In order to position the liner within the existing pipe, the liner is turned inside out and placed in an elevated platform. The liner is filled with water before installation, and then hot water is distributed in the liners to cure the resin with heat.
Pull-in-place CIPP installation
This process involves the use of custom double-coated liners that are pulled into place and then filled with hot water to cure the resin. Pull-in-place is the preferred method for pipelines with short but wide diameters, often common in industrial applications.
CIPP pipe lining may not be an option
While this method can be done regardless of the material used in the damaged pipes, there are some instances where CIPP lining won’t a viable solution.
Should the damaged pipe be badly bent or deformed in overall shape, CIPP pipe installation won’t be quite as effective. Similarly, projects that involve increasing the pipes actual load or flow capacity, or in chemical pipelines that can corrode or dissolve the CIPP lining material.

The Bluelight CIPP lining installation procedure
This trenchless method involves the use of CIPP sewer lining materials such as a flexible felt tube and a liquid resin. The tube is set in place into the damaged pipe either by pulling or inverting it into position using water or air pressure.
Once in place, the liner can be inflated according to the pipe’s size and shape. To make it strong and create a tight fit on the existing pipe, the lining is heated using either steam or hot water to cure it, making it hard. We now prefer to employ the application of a blue UV light to cure the pipe resin.
Once fully cured, the resin forms a seamless surface within the existing pipe. Because of this level of reinforcement, Bluelight CIPP repairs damaged pipes, cover hidden leaks, and minimises the risk of future pipe bursts.
What can you expect during Bluelight CIPP liner installation?
Because we do not need to dig trenches to remove and replace the damaged pipes, our Bluelight CIPP liner installations generally take a few hours to complete. Water pipes large or small can be restored through Bluelight CIPP lining installation within one day.
Clearly your water supply will be turned off whilst the work is carried out, so certain preparations need to be made beforehand. The day before we arrive, store as much water as you anticipate needing to minimise any inconvenience.

Bluelight CIPP lining specialists are professionals who offer specialised services, such as commercial pipe restorations. They also often provide other services that could include pipe inspections using cameras and plumbing surveys. However, they don’t always offer other plumbing services.
Commercial plumbers can also carry out Bluelight CIPP lining installation works. So as well as fixing water leaks and drainage problems, they may also offer Bluelight CIPP lining services. Commercial plumbers and CIPP lining specialists both have to get a license in order to practice their profession.
